SURVIVAL SIGNAL

If you're reading this, you're either a nerd or into cybersecurity. Or maybe not, but what do I know?

DOC Products’ final product is the Survival Signal. Its purpose is to determine the location of a hiker when they are lost or in danger. It consists of an FM radio transmitter enclosed by a plastic casing and can attach to a hiker’s keys or backpack with a keyring. It has a switch to turn the device on/off and to activate the emergency signal, the ‘SOS’ button must be pressed for 5 seconds and the device must be on. It would send a ping out every few minutes or hours to the existing radio towers at a hiking park. Using the towers, a ranger would be able to use the signal to determine the distance and direction of the hiker’s location and rescue them. The rangers would have registered the specific signal pattern that the transmitter uses, which is printed on the back of the casing. This solution implements the existing infrastructure in hiking parks because they generally have radio towers for communication. This device will drastically cut down the resources like time and money required by Search and Rescue units.
