This week started as DOC products needed to decide in what direction to take our project. Monday started with our original storage system idea then a meeting with Luise lead to a decision to come up with ten more problems each. The next day after a meeting the team decided to run with a project involving a trail cairn locating system. A trail cairn is a pile of rocks on the side of a trail that helps direct a person on a trail when the weather conditions turn bad or the trail is indisgusable from the ground surface. The problem we are attempting to solve is that in bad weather conditions or the cairns are too far apart a person could get lost, which could lead to the worst of situations. The main information we found was statistics on lost hikers, the amount of rescues the New Hampshire fish and game service makes annually, and the cost of the average rescue by the New Hampshire fish and game service. Now the next steps involve coming up with a finalized problem statement and finding any existing solutions close to our ideas for solutions.
